Maslinda rescued Lolo and her sibling on 16th July. According to Maslinda, Lolo had since then been a little slow in her movements, but was eating well.
A few days ago, Lolo did not look well and started going down. However, she was still able to eat on her own, but was getting very weak.
Maslinda brought Lolo to our panel vet today, 10am.
Lolo was already very weak, but she was still able to eat this morning when hand-fed.
Lolo could not quite sit on her chest. She was already recumbent (lying on her side only). Her temperature was also sub-normal.
Lolo's case was a complicated one, so the senior vet was called in for a more thorough diagnosis. The senior vet tested the reflexes in her paws.
Checking for further reflexes. Lolo's reflexes were not normal. Her pupil dilation was also not normal which suggests some form of brain disorder.
Lolo was already gasping for breath.
The differential diagnosis was a rather complicated one.
Lolo has an enlarged liver, a bladder problem, is constipated and is already recumbent. She also appears to have a spinal chord problem and possibly a brain disorder as well. The cause could be anatomical. Possible diagnosis are tetanus as well as toxoplasmosis.
The plan was to put her on drips to revive her condition and do bloodwork to further assess her condition before any further treatment can be administered.
So, this was done. I asked if the RetroMAD1 would help and it would, if Lolo was infected with a virus, which is again, highly possible.
So, I rushed over to get the RetroMAD1 for Lolo.
Maslinda with Lolo.
Lolo was put on drips and given the RetroMAD1. Bloodwork was done and the results showed a high concentration of lymphocytes which indicates there is definitely an infection. Her liver was also in a bad condition.
At about 3.45pm, the vet called me to inform me that Lolo had just passed away. She was about to force-feed Lolo when Lolo gave three long breaths and closed her eyes.
Maslinda has been informed and we have requested her consent for a post-mortem as Lolo's was a very complicated and rare case and whatever information obtained would help other such cases. Maslinda will consider the request but we would, of course, respect her wishes.
As I always say, time is relative. Lolo was treated with respect and we did everything possible to save her life. She was showered with love and care before she breathed her last. She had one month with Maslinda and that was one whole month of loving care.
Lolo's treatment today is sponsored from our funds.
May Lolo be in a better place now, one that is free from suffering.
