3 MORE DAYS LEFT TO SHOW YOUR WARMTH TO THE ANIMALS!
We still need your help to meet the target!
Here is the story of one of the animals youll be helping:
Last Christmas was a special day not only for our rescue team, but also for a tiny fellow barely 40 cm long.
The ACRES Wildlife Rescue Team was called when someone spotted a snake in their house, sneaking under under a sliding door. When the team reached the location, they were surprised to find that the snake was not a native species (most of our snake rescues involve native species). He was, in fact, a non-native apricot milk snake!
These snakes are non-venomous despite their striking red and black colouring, and both their non-venomous nature and attractive colouration make them popular as pets. In Singapore it is illegal to keep snakes as pets, so Candy must have been illegally kept as a pet, and then either escaped or, more likely, was abandoned. Thankfully, he was lucky enough to have been spotted and rescued on Christmas Day; had it not been so, it is likely he would have perished in Singapores unfamiliar environment, to which he is not adapted.
His colours resemble that of a candy cane, and so we named him Candy.
Candy is currently under observation in our quarantine centre, and has slowly started eating. But Candy needs a new home.
Help us meet our fundraising target so that the animals we rescue from the illegal wildlife trade, just like Candy, get new enclosures to suit their needs!
