Yes, we call it Coldzilla! The air here in New England is so icy that you can suffer from frostbite with just 5 minutes of exposure on your skin. This is one of the worst winters we’ve had in years with more than 100 inches of snow. It does no good to cry about the next about the next two storms in the forecast because the tears will freeze before they reach your chin. More than 2,200 miles of the United States is in for another winter wallop this weekend. So when we tell you this cat is lucky, we mean REALLY LUCKY.
This little one appears to have spent most of the winter outside! She was observed crawling under a backyard deck to get out of the snow. The homeowner, Robyn, called the Harmony Fund for advice on what to do and we instantly set about a plan for rescue. Turns out, it didn’t take long at all. And although kitty ran off the first night, the second night she was actually brave enough to walk right in the house when she was invited in with the lure of some hot wet food.
Coaching the rescue by phone remotely, we could hear kitty meow and meow and meow at the top of her lungs for a good 20 minutes straight before settling in under the bed of Robyn’s teenage daughter Katlin. Kitty would have been hard pressed to stay alive last night as the windchills brought in perhaps the worst night of the season. She was truly rescued just in time.
Today kitty is purring non-stop. She’s very, very thin and is eating up a storm. She loves the little nest the family made her. Although two members of this household (including rescuer Robyn) have severe allergies to cats, a family friend who loves cats has offered to adopt kitty if needed.
