Happy Chinese New Year! Wishing all our supporters a safe journey as you travel. May the year of the goat bring you and your loved ones an abundance in joy!
Here’s a camera trap photo taken of the Serow, known locally as kambing gurun. We’re all familiar with our tigers, turtles, orang-utans and other more popular species, but how many of you have heard of a Serow? Little is known about them as they are rare even in the wild. Sadly, their populations are declining due to poaching and habitat destruction and they are now listed as “vulneable to extinction” in the IUCN Redlist.
This Chinese New Year, make sure not to support the sale and consumption of exotic meat, and report suspicious wildlife trade activity to the 24-hour Wildlife Crime Hotline at 019 – 356 4194.
