CHINESE NEW YEAR DECORATIONS NEED TO BE KEPT OUT OF REACH
In addition to being a choking and intestinal blockage hazard, shards from broken pieces may injure paws, mouths, or other parts of your pet’s body.
FIREWORKS & FIRECRACKERS
Keep your pets indoors during fireworks, preferably with human companionship. Bringing your pets to a fireworks display is never a good idea. When fireworks start, close the curtains so your pet cannot see the flashes. Turn on the TV or put some music to help mask the noise. Provide a safe place inside for your them to retreat. When scared of sounds they cant orient, dogs often prefer small enclosed areas, cats prefer somewhere higher, ie top of cupboards. Wear proper ID tags on your pets (with your name and contact number) so they can be easily identified if they get lost.
NEW YEAR VISITING / OPEN HOUSE
Give your pet his own quiet space to retreat tocomplete with fresh water and a place to snuggle. Shy pups and cats might want to hide out under a piece of furniture, in their carrying case or in a separate room away from the hubbub.
CAREFUL WITH COCKTAILS & BEER
If your celebration includes adult holiday beverages, be sure to place your unattended alcoholic drinks where pets cannot get to them. If ingested, your pet could become weak, ill and may even go into a coma, possibly resulting in death from respiratory failure.
Please be informed that our Shelter Opening Hours for 18-20 February 2015 will be from 10am to 2pm. Greetings from our lovely shelter residents, who are still waiting for their forever home. Have a Happy Goat Year!
