ANIMAL SENTIENCE: WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

Why does ACRES exist? Why do we do what we do?

It really comes down to one reason: the fact that animals are sentient beings.

As well as feeling physical sensations such as pain, hunger and discomfort, plenty of evidence supports the notion that many of them experience a whole host of other feelings and emotions, including fear, happiness, grief and empathy, and many more.

However, as humans continue to exploit animals in so many ways, the feelings of the animals are frequently ignored. We at ACRES are working towards a world in which animal feelings are considered, animal exploitation ends, and animals no longer suffer.

ACRES (Animal Concerns Research & Education Society) is a pioneering Singapore-based charity and Institution of Public Character, founded by Singaporeans in 2001 with the aim of promoting animal welfare.

ACRES has six focus areas: Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation, Wildlife Crime Investigation, Zoo Animal Welfare, Humane Education, Community Outreach and Promoting Cruelty-Free Living.
