SAVING BIG GIRL FROM THE DOG CATCHERS

Big Girl was a homeless dog who simply has no idea how big she is. She was roaming through the neighborhoods of the city of Ilijas in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Big Girl was hungry, very hungry, but every time she approached a person for food, they would either chase her off or run the other way. Big Girl wagged her tail and had such hope with every person she tried to befriend, but the answer was always the same. �Go away!�

Unfortunately, Big Girl�s luck was about to go from bad to worse as she and several other dogs were being hunted down by the dog catchers who notoriously use any means possible to collect their bounty. They are paid for every dog they bring in, no matter what harm they cause in the process.

Rescuers Edina Pasic and Caki Bravo were in the right place at the right time and they put Big Girl in their vehicle along with all the other dogs they could locate in that neighborhood. They stayed just ahead of the dog catchers, filling their vehicles with dog after dog after dog until they felt confident that they had collected all the strays in immediate danger. Big Girl didn�t mind sharing the car with so many dogs. She was delighted to go for a ride with people who had actually offered her a delicious meal and several hugs.

Last week Harmony Fund sponsored the cost of Big Girl�s veterinary care and transport. She�s on her way to a German Shepherd rescue organization in the UK. Although she�s not a member of that breed, the group is confident that they can find her a good home.

“She loves to be with people, and she is a very smart dog,� Edina Pasic (pictured here) tells us. �She also loves to eat!”

Thanks to all of your very BIG HEARTS, Big Girl now knows just how special she is.
