Like many reptiles, the gender of turtle hatchlings depend on the temperature of the sand in which it’s eggs are incubated. Generally, higher or hotter temperatures produce female hatchlings and lower or colder temperatures produce male hatchlings. Climate change which brings about a rise in global temperatures mean that more female than male turtles will be produced. This gender imbalance will affect their population as a whole.

This Earth Hour, help us combat the effects or climate change by planting more trees in degraded forests by fundraising or donating at http://goo.gl/m0fB5U
