FAREWELL AND THANK YOU TO INTERNS SU-EN AND SARA!
Over the past month, second year veterinary students Chua Su-En and Sara Oka, from Melbourne University, have been interning with us at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC). They have really taken ownership of their roles, taking excellent care of the animals at the centre. Su-En and Sara joined us at a crucial time, when 85% of the rescued tortoises had recently been moved to outdoor enclosures. Their commitment to taking care of the animals has not only helped us manpower- wise, but has also allowed us to focus on other issues. They have now ended their volunteering stint at ACRES, and will be returning to continue their studies soon.
Su-En and Sara enjoyed their experience at ACRES and shared with us that they have learned many things. For one, Sara and Su-En have learned that reptiles have their own personalities and have feelings. Part of their work involved preparing food and enrichment for the animals, which highlighted how some of the tortoises are truly picky eaters, with lettuce being their favourite food and dark cabbage their most hated! The vet interns also shared that they never knew that the wildlife in Singapore is so diverse.
We wish Su-En and Sara all the best in their studies ahead, and we hope their volunteering experience has given them invaluable knowledge.
If you would like to know how YOU can make a difference for the animals at our sanctuary through our internship programme, please email us at volunteer@acres.org.sg.
