VEGGIE THURSDAY: PIGGY EMPATHY!
People reduce their meat consumption or become vegetarian for many reasons. Concern for the animals and recognition that they are sentient beings is often a major factor.
Heres a recent news feature that makes us love pigs even more! For a long time, people whove worked with or simply observed these amazing animals have acknowledged that they are sentient beings, and new research backs this up, with evidence that pigs show empathy towards their penmates, sharing their stress and happiness.
Scientists at Wageningen University in the Netherlands demonstrated that pigs (stock image) empathise with others they share a pen so that the stress and happiness of the animals is contagious.
