PREGNANT WOMAN SAVES KITTEN FROM STORM DRAIN

Alica Curtovic was out for an evening walk with her dog when she heard a sound that set fire to every nerve ending in her body. This was the panicked distress call of a kitten. Looking around, Alica could see other cats in the area, all apparently tuned in to the crisis but helpless to do anything about it. Alica, who is expecting a baby, carefully got down on her knees and shined a light into a nearby sewer. Sure enough, there at the bottom, was a screeching, black ball of fur.
Alica and her friend Aldin Pasic called the Sarajevo police and fire departments, uneasy about what response they might get. But this night, luck was on their side and the fire department agreed to help.
“We drove her to the vet clinic,” said Alica’s friend Edina Pasic (shown holding kitten) who leads the rescue group Andejo Sarajevo. “The kittens nose is blocked and she refuses food. Her eyes are also closed and infected. She is getting food and milk through the syringe.”
Edina put up a plea on Facebook for help to pay for the veterinary bill and to board the kitten once she was strong enough to leave the clinic. The Harmony Fund quickly sent funds to cover the kitten’s costs and everyone held their breath waiting to see if the kitten would survive.
Within just a couple of days, the kitten was feeling much better and her health is fully restored. Her name is Francis and she is indeed a survivor. She’s now spending her second week at a home-based boarding center and is up for adoption in Sarajevo.
