If we didn’t know better, we’d swear that Dr. Osman has supernatural powers. He seems to float from one place to the next, instantly appearing by the side of animals who are very ill. One moment he’s dressed in scrubs and leaning over the exam table to check the temperature of a street cat brought in with a bacterial infection. An hour later, you’ll find him on his knees by the side of the road, gently talking to a homeless dog who has been hit by a car. Though he does have some paying clients, it often seems that the lion’s share of Dr. Osman’s patients are homeless animals, which means he treats them for free.

For three years, the Harmony Fund has been sponsoring the care of street animals here in Avsallar, Turkey. Throughout that time we’ve watched Dr. Osman turn the spare room of his clinic into a foster care center for street cats waiting international adoption. We’ve seen him use his own car as a form of ambulance as he rushes to help animals who are sick or injured on the streets.And we’ve seen him endure confrontation with residents whose wicked intention is to not only kill street animals, but to make them suffer in the worst possible ways.

This month, we’re sending Dr. Osman a donation to spay/neuter another 100 street cats. He’ll do this work alone, but we want him to know that we stand beside him. After all, isn’t this what the Harmony Fund is all about. Though we all may be separated by thousands of miles, we stand together as one when a soft, furry soul looks up at us with a pair of eyes that beg for help.
