450 DOGS TO BE EVICTED FROM SANCTUARY ON CHRISTMAS DAY

Sasa Pesic runs an absolutely breathtaking cage-free dog sanctuary in Serbia. The dogs eat, play and run together. They sleep in straw lined beds in what was once a horse stable. Normally Christmas is a time when the staff prepares special surprises for the dogs, but the peace here is about to be shattered as the municipality of Nis has ordered the dogs to leave the sanctuary on Christmas day..

The eviction notice comes on the heels of the sanctuary�s whistle-blower activity against a government veterinarian who was performing grossly negligent spaying surgeries on street dogs, releasing them with open surgical sites. Many of these dogs were rescued by the sanctuary and nursed back to health. Now the city suddenly wants to reclaim the municipally owned land that has been used by the sanctuary for years.

Dog catchers will swarm the sanctuary on Christmas Day and we’d rather not paint a picture of what will happen next. A major show of international condemnation will bring great influence to this crisis, and we do believe that we can avert tragedy.
