Odie was one of hundreds of dogs snatched from the streets of northern Thailand and crammed into a tiny cage on top of other terrified innocents. Like them, he was destined to be smuggled illegally out of the country and into Vietnam, where he would be brutally tortured and skinned alive for his meat.

Odie is without a doubt one of the luckiest dogs alive today. Thanks to the Thai people who phone our hotline to report any sightings of dog meat trade activity, the truck carrying Odie and hundreds of other innocent dogs was intercepted in a police raid.

Odie and the other dogs were rescued and taken to a shelter funded by Soi Dog supporters, where they received medical attention and food and water. Sadly, not all of the dogs on that truck had made it. With so many crammed on top of one another in small cages, some succumbed to heat exhaustion and others suffocated to death, crushed by the weight of so many dogs on top of them.

Meanwhile, thousands of miles away in England, a lady called Lorraine set eyes on a photograph of Odie for the first time. �It was the look on his face that made me want to save him,� she says, �he had the saddest and most expressive eyes you’ve ever seen � and that’s what got to me.�

Thanks to Lorraine, Odie is now living the happiest of lives in England, a world away from the unspeakable horror he so narrowly avoided.
