Help Save Dogs Like Me From Being Boiled Alive

It begins one afternoon when I was lying as usual in the dusty shade outside my owner’s house in a small village in Thailand. When a small truck drove past, I didn’t think much at first, but then the driver and his friend circled back a couple more times before stopping just near me.

I wasn’t sure what was happening, but both men jumped quickly out of the truck and ran to corner me off from running away. I jumped up, eyes darting around – suddenly I was very scared. Both men had metal sticks – one with tongs on the end. The man with the tongs snapped them painfully around my neck and wrenched me from the ground.

It was horrible � the tongs were strangling me and biting right into my throat. Then the other man opened a cage on the back of the truck, and I was dropped in on top of six or seven other dogs, all yelping and fumbling around on top of each other. They jumped back in the truck and sped off as us dogs were falling all over and biting each other.

They drove us for an hour to an abandoned property near another town and waited. The sore on my neck from the tongs was bleeding, and another dog looked like he had a snapped paw – he wasn’t moving. I heard another few small trucks arrive with dogs.

As the sun went down, a big, long truck arrived. It already had many, many cages of dogs on it, all looking scared and some looking close to death. They picked our cage up roughly and threw it on top of the other cages on the big truck. Two more dogs’ paws snapped and they screamed terribly. It was awful.

After all the dog cages were loaded on the big truck, it started driving off into the night. Some of the unlucky dogs on the inner-most cages couldn’t get air. They were suffocating. All of the cages were over-packed with dogs – there were many with legs broken or faces cut and bleeding, unable to move.

I tried to push myself out of the cage to breathe, then got stuck with my neck pushing down on the bars, with my head hanging out of the cage.

After hours of driving, we were getting thirsty – it was so hot under the canvas covers the smugglers were hiding us with, and we were all suffering. Some dogs had even died.

Then we heard a siren and some yelling, and the truck suddenly stopped. We heard some car doors slam and some more men yelling.

Suddenly the covers were pulled off our cages. There were lots of men around us – some of them police. Some were taking photos and others questioning our truck driver.

I didn’t know it at the time, but these people were saving us.

They took us to a shelter and offloaded the truck. The sore on my neck had become infected, so they cleaned it up then gave me some antibiotics. They cleaned up all the dogs that could be saved. Sadly, many had died.

Those that survived were fed and introduced to our new home in Thailand. There were many, many dogs there though. After a few months of attention and repair, I was lucky enough to be adopted to my new home in Scotland. I am very loved and I’m so happy here. I’m one of the really lucky ones – that’s why I’m called ‘Miracle’.
