This account is from Koo. Goldie is the first dog rescued from the Rawang Container Operation. Goldie's daughter, Winnie, has already been adopted.
Dear Dr Chan,
Thank you for arranging for the vet appointment for Goldie's 2nd vaccination. I would like to share a few lessons from the vet that I didn't know as a newbie fosterer: 1) After every vaccination, the dog should not be bathed for a week because it might adversely affect the vaccine which needs the time to be fully effective. 2) It is not ideal to vaccinate and spay/neuter at the same day. For best result, there should be a gap of about a week before/after the spaying/neutering. 3) The dog must get the follow-up vaccination on or a few days BEFORE the expiry of the previous vaccination and NOT after the expiry. Otherwise, the dog's immunity would be compromised.
In addition, I would like to highlight that Goldie is still available for adoption at no cost. She's only about 2 years old according to the vet and healthy. She's on monthly Heartgard and Frontline (which is a responsible owner/fosterer's treatment for his dog to guard against heartworms and ticks/fleas/lice/mites). She's not fussy with food/drink at all as she happily lives on dry kibbles and clean water. She's friendly to humans but not with other dogs or cats. She would make a good companion as well as a guard dog as she would growl and bark at strangers. She loves long walks and would be a boon for those joggers/walkers looking for company and protection. She has an adorable trait of waving her tail non-stop as she walks. She would walk obediently beside me and never pull away (like my 2 adopted naughty dogs). She's also very loyal and would return when called. In fact, she would whine and bark in jealousy if I walked my fostered dogs and left her behind at my home. Due to her demure nature, I don't believe she was born a feral dog but rather she was more likely an abandoned pet but is now rehabilitated. As you can see from the pictures, during the car trip to and back from the vet, she did not have to be caged at all and obediently stay put during the long journey. Thus, I'm very pleased with her progress in becoming a domesticated and loving home dog compared to her destitute outside life under a container in the past. Thank you very much and best regards, Koo PS I've taken leave from work again next Friday, 5 August 2011 to get Goldie spayed and would appreciate it very much if you could book her surgery at the vet's. I would like to do it on Friday so that I can monitor her recovery full-time at least over the weekend. I can bring her in when the vet open in the morning. I will bear her surgery cost in full.
Please forward this link and let's help Goldie find a home.
