Amy Tham called me about this poor mother-cat who has given birth at least 3 times but each time, her kittens would all die.
This is precisely what we sometimes do not see, especially those who claim that street animals are "okay" and that if you just leave them alone, they'll know how to survive.
No, some of them don't.
One of our rescues, Joanie, who is featured in my book "See you at Rainbow Bridge" was found with obstructed labour. One fetus was stuck at her vulva, causing the rest to die and decompose inside until everything had turned into a gaseous, necrotic state resulting in near-death for Joanie. After the emergency surgery which saved her life, she was ice-cold for 2-3 days. I nursed Joanie back to health and she finally went back to the streets.
So, not everything works well in nature. Otherwise, why would we go all out to encourage spay-neuter to prevent unwanted births?
This is the young cat who had given birth three times and all her kittens had died. She has just given birth again and her kittens had died this round too. Poor thing...
Mrs Goh brought her to the vet today, thinking she might be spayed already, but the vet examined her and her mammary glands are still swollen. The vet advised to bring her back in two weeks for spaying.
We will sponsor the spaying while Mrs Goh will foster her for this duration.
