I've been working late these days as the college is undergoing curricula changes, but I managed to visit Karuna and Citta just before the clinic closed today.
The moment Karuna saw me, she was so happy she came right to the door of her enclosure, thinking she was going to get a walk. I asked the vets, and they said they'd just walked her, but it's ok, she could go again.
How can you say "no" to a face like that, right?
Okay, Karuna, I'll take you for a walk...
I'm a total sucker when animals ask for anything. That is why I cannot "train" animals to do anything. On the contrary, THEY train me!
As we went out of the door, Citta was coming back from her walk!
Karuna says "hi" to Citta. Sniff, sniff...
The vet says Citta is doing well.
It seems Rena brought chicken today and she walloped it all!
Look at how she has bitten the e-collar. She must be pretty bored.
Hey Citta!
Citta goes back and Karuna and I proceed with our walk.
She is as curious as ever...but when we came to the road parallel to the main road, she kept pulling me to that direction. I wondered why. She seemed to be attracted to the heavy traffic on that road. No, no, we'd better go back now...
So we went back to the clinic. I can't help admiring how much Karuna has improved. From a totally scared and depressed dog, she is now confident and happy. That's the miracle and power of love. The vets adore her and only has good things to say about her.
I asked the vet's assistant to help me take a frontview of Karuna.
The vet who is looking after her says she is SO sweet. "SUCH a sweet dog", she said.
I know it's a long shot, but we're asking if anyone would be willing to foster her for a few weeks before she is returned to the temple. We need someone who can check on her wounds every day. Karuna does not need any nursing care at all, just a daily check on her wounds and lesions, and if any of them starts bleeding, just bring her back to the clinic for dressing. She can be kept in a big cage with enough space to move about, and ideally, she needs a walk twice a day.
If you are able to foster her, please contact me at chankahyein@gmail.com. Karuna is not our rescue, we're just helping the rescuer, Chong, as he is not very familiar with such things.
Or, would anyone like to adopt Karuna? She would make an ideal companion for a house-person as she herself is also a "retired elderly dog".
And a parting shot of Citta, who dwells in the opposite cage.
Bye, doggies!
P.S. And I met Norsidah, Tommy's owner, as I was leaving the clinic. Tommy was in the car, and had just been checked by the vet. Nor says Tommy has put on weight! It's a total miracle, I tell you. Tommy had kidney FAILURE and was only given a few days more to live. It's the power of love...that's what it is. Never underestimate that, and even if whatever you hope for fails, none of the love given is ever wasted, especially when it's showered on animals! They deserve it; they always do.
