A bright light for street dogs!

In Bosnia, brave dog rescuer Arijana Ari gets in her car at midnight each night to try to save dogs from the dog catchers. To understand why, you must understand that the dog catchers are a bit like bounty hunters here, paid by the head, and the municipal pounds are referred to as “horror camps” or “death camps”. Because of layers of corruption and apathy, the dogs are rarely fed and out of respect for all of you, we won’t discuss what happens when the dogs’ time is up.

Imagine you are a mother dog, doing your best to take good care of your puppies. You try to keep them safe and still find food. One night, two cars pull up on you. In the first is a man who creeps toward you with a noose in his hands. In the second is a woman who screeches past him just in time to lift you and your puppies into her arms and to rush to the safety of her car. The man calls the police and a heated debate ensues, but the woman refuses to be intimidated and won’t let them take you.

Arijana has huge costs mounting for the boarding (pension costs) of the dogs she has rescued and now a fine for protecting the dogs. Each dog receives veterinary care and adopters are sought in Europe.
