The feline in question, known to some as Ming, and to others as Cleo, is a sneaky Siamese cat, originallypurchased as a pet by the Alexander family in 2000.
They named the little kitten Ming, and he quickly became known around the familys suburban, Australian neighborhood for his wandering ways. His owner, Alice Alexander, frequently reported the kitty going missing.
In 2010, Ming disappeared completely, only to show up a full four years later, looking perfectly healthy and happy. Despite efforts to ensure his whereabouts including getting the cat microchipped and collared he continued to disappear.
Whenever he was lost, the Alexander family put up signs and posters around the neighborhood, hoping for the safe return of their pet.
According to Alice Alexander, one time Ming went missing, and a woman named Glenda Smith called to inform that she, indeed, had the cat andhad the cat for several years. His name was not Ming, but Cleo. It was her cat.
The puss, it transpired, was leading a double life: two sets of families, two homes, and all along, nobody knew.
Currently, the Smith and Alexander families are in a custody battle of sorts to decide who gets to keep the 15-year-old kitty. Local police have been involved, but are unable to help the families come to an agreement.
So, it looks like the pets futurewill be decided by Ming/Cleo. Because the cat, not the human, is the boss.
