A goldfish called George underwent high-risk brain surgery to remove a protruding tumour and is now recovering well back in his home pond. The whole operation was done using three buckets of water, with different levels of anaesthesia. Gelatin sponge was used to control bleeding and it was very “fiddly” as George, being a small fish, could not lose more than 1/2 a millilitre of blood. It was a 30 minute procedure and George’s owner opted for it instead of having George put down.
Kudos to the owner and the dedicated and highly skilled vet.
Get well soon, George!!
