This is a short but very sweet tribute to Dodo, Mayo Clinic's resident-cat who passed away a few days ago.  It's from Cheryl Poo:

Sigh Kah Yein, I just read your blog post about Dodo. I'm feeling sad as I've always liked the ginger guy. He was one of the most gracious cats I've ever seen. When I brought Cookie in to be spayed, I let her out to wander around and Dodo followed her into the first room. He was so cute... he was eyeing Cookie and I was a little worried that this way bigger cat might pounce on my kitty. But Dodo went up to Cookie like a gentleman and greeted her by the nose. Cookie seemed surprised then suddenly shrank back and hissed! And many times more after that although Dodo just followed Cookie around and watched, amused. I was so impressed by Dodo's attitude and am so sad that a beautiful cat like him has passed on. Sigh. At least, he did so in peace. Even my colleague, who once brought her dog to Mayo, remembers him.

Yes, we'll all miss Dodo, and yes, you are right, he was such a gentlemanly cat, and was always very concerned about the other cats who came in.  I've brought and accompanied so many cats to Mayo, and Dodo would always go over and sniff at each one of them, almost as though he was telling them not to worry and that they were in a safe place. Or, he was there to keep them company.

But Dodo, compared to other cats, had a good life.  He was never caged up, he was not used as a blood donor; he was the clinic cat, and respectfully treated as one.  And, he certainly played his role as a most gracious "host" to every cat who came into "his" clinic.

I was told Dr Khor buried Dodo in the little patch of grass in front of the clinic.  He dug the hole with his bare hands.  When asked why, the good doctor said it was so that Dodo would always be near the clinic, and that he (the doctor) could "see" Dodo every day.
