Happy World Snake Day

16th July may be the World Snake day, but every day is a wild day for us at ACRES team of staff members and volunteers.
However, snakes are one of the group of animals who are often mistaken out of fear and ignorance, and end up being beaten to serious injuries or even death. What is often overlooked about them is not only their beauty and perfection like any life forms, but also their own roles in our ecosystem as natural rodent/lizard/bird population controllers, in particular our own urban environment.
Like most wild animals, they avoid humans at all costs, and turn defensive only when inappropriately handled, threatened or cornered.
Here are some of our out of focus pictures of our own native species of snakes taken during our rescues.
Check them out and see if you can identify them. You may have a guess at times since the pictures are not in focus or complete.
Enter your answer in the comment, and to nature enthusiasts out there – you are most welcome to add in an interesting fact about them as well!
Happy World Snake day, and have a wonderful weekend ahead
