DESPERATELY ILL WITH NOBODY WHO CARED� I LAY DOWN ALONE AND WAITED TO DIE�

As a street dog of Phuket, I have never known love or had anyone to care for me. I have gone through so much pain and suffering in my short life. I am only 3 years of age and yet, I am old beyond my years. My name is Wisdom.

Being born without an owner to care for me, I developed some terrible skin problems that meant I was itching and scratching non-stop. Most of my fur was gone and I was covered in gangrene lesions.

An old, untreated wound on one of my back paws had become seriously infected. I could no longer use that leg. One day, I simply crawled into a shallow canal and gave up on life. I lay there alone, waiting to die.

I don�t know how long I�d been there when a man arrived. He called to me softly but I was too weak to move. The man waded into the canal, picked me up and held me in his arms. My eyes met his and I knew I was safe. The man�s name was Khun Thep and he is an Animal Rescue Officer with Soi Dog.

Since being at the shelter, I am being treated for something called demodectic mange, which had caused all my itching and scabbing and the loss of my fur. The leg that was causing me so much pain has been removed and I am slowly learning to be mobile again. The pain has gone and with it the misery. I no longer want to lie down and die.

All of this is due to the Soi Dog supporters who belong to the Emergency Response Team. Without their regular donations, I would still be lying in that canal in excruciating pain or possibly dead from septicaemia. These kind supporters have saved my life.
