“WHITE OWL, $200…. HIT ME UP”

Chris Pea of Brownsville, Texas has a very good sense of right and wrong and he’s not afraid to use it. Chris was looking over a friend’s Facebook page when he found an unusual post advertising the sale of a snowy owl. The post said, “White owl, $200 … hit me up.”

Chris was concerned about the owl and had the suspicion that the sale was illegal, so he called his local Channel 5 News for help. The reporter brought in the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and shortly after, they tracked down the seller and confiscated the owl.

The owl is recovering at Glady’s Porter Zoo, but what’s most disturbing is that the owl has bilateral injuries, indicative of potentially deliberate wounding of the bird.

“I have never seen wounds like this, that symmetrical. They are in the exact same place in both wings,” Dr. Thomas Demaar said.

The owl is expected to make a full recovery and will be released when ready.

A reminder to us all, when you see an animal in trouble, PLEASE don’t be afraid to step forward. You may just be the only thing that stands between tragedy and a very happy ending.

Animal Rescue Chase

The Great Animal Rescue Chase celebrates the art of animal rescue with a worldwide race to rescue one million. It’s a free event, open to all, and is perhaps the only global animal rescue event aimed at helping any animal in distress, anywhere in the world. Our ambition is to create a culture of enthusiasm and pride in animal activism. We believe in teaching, by example, that there is a hero in each of us just waiting to be unleashed. Empowered animal lovers can not only save lives, but build the momentum for powerful animal welfare reform.
