From Koo:
As per our appointment, I arrived at 7.30pm sharp yesterday (Thursday, 7 July) to the guard entrance of Sis Nui's apartment block in Kerinchi. Along the way, I noticed there were many food stalls (no shortage of food supply for the cats) along the road, heavy (foot and car) traffic (constant danger to the strays) everywhere which is likely the result of a concentration of high-rise living quarters.
I was waiting at the guardhouse for Sis Nui to fetch me when I observed a curious scene. The guards were playing with kittens when the security chief arrived. He reprimand them for feeding and allowing the kittens to mingle near the guardhouse as the kittens' pee and poo were dirtying the place. Then, he made a disturbing command to the guards to get rid of the kittens by throwing them into the deep drain! Of course, I cannot just stand by idly, block out what was said and rationalise that I was only there to rescue the cats/kittens which was way inside the apartment block. So, I went into action and I discovered that there was a tame mother cat and her 3 skittish kittens. By the time Sis Nui arrived, I managed to catch the mother cat and one of the kittens. The other kittens would escape through a hole in the fence and out of my reach. Never mind, I told the friendly and kind-hearted guards that I will be back for the remaining 2 kittens and to disregard their boss' instruction which they were more than happy to ignore.
Together with Sis Nui, I went to the spot where her cats and kittens were. It was a daunting task as I anticipated. There were parked cars everywhere and wide open space for the cats to hide and run. The situation was made worse by a mother cat and her 5 kittens who were taking refuge on the roof of a storage building which was unreachable. Sis Nui was worried for the mother cat who was said to be suffering from a mouth infection. After Sis Nui set down her food and called to the cats, I tried unsuccessful to capture the cats and decided to stop after an hour to avoid stressing out the cats to the point that they may never trust Sis Nui again. As a result, we agreed that a cat trap has to be obtained in the future. I hope she will have better success.
I went back to the guardhouse while Sis Nui continued to feed the cats. The kittens were back out from the hole in the fence and I tried a different trick. I lined the fence hole with a netting that I brought and chased them again. Predictably, one after another, they sprinted to the fence hole to escape but this time, they were went straight into the netting and was trapped!
Thus, there was one success for that night. Although we didn't get any of Sis Nui's cats, at least they don't face the danger of being thrown and drowning in the drain like the evacuated family of the young mother cat and her 3 kittens. Sis Nui will get the mother cat spayed but she needs someone to foster the 3 kittens until they are adopted or old enough to be spayed and released as community cats. The plan was to eventually release this family to another spot in the apartment block but far from the guardhouse.
The cat which Sis Nui believed to be suffering from a mouth infection.
The 3 evacuated kittens which were in danger of being drowned in the big drain.
The only picture of the many I took of the captured mother cat where you catch a glimpse of her eyes. She had beautiful and piercing eyes but she was so smart that she would close them when I tried to use my camera flash. I believe her breed is called Bombay cat.
Thank you and best regards,
Koo
From Sis Nui (Dr Veeranoot):
I like to update for the 1st animal rescue at Pantai Hillpark phase 1. A black cat (Thongdam) with 3 of her kittens were rescued accidentally on Thursday's night. I sent her to the vet in Puchong on Friday, the vet suggested me to quarantine her for 1 week before send her again for spay and later vaccinate. Thongdam's health is perfect and she was dewormed. Now, she is with me (attached photos). For 3 kittens, I managed to clean and deworm them and Julie Pek kindly offer to foster all of them. She will pick them on one of these days. I promised to provide their foods from time to time till they are adopted. They are very cute and move around my place (attached photos). For a white mother cat with infection around her mouth, I took her photo and showed to the vet for any prescription. The vet suggested to rescue her...Bro. Koo kindly help and bring a proper trap as well. Thank you once again.
