Yesterday, Joanne sent one of the factory dogs, Queenie, to be spayed at the vet in Klang.
Joanne wrote to me last night:
Queenie was taken her weight, 14kg and given her vaccination. She was a little afraid but still calm as she is used to people and luckily my foreign worker colleague who always feed Queenie followed me to the clinic. The vet said Queenie can be picked up after 2pm. We picked Queenie up ard 5.30pm today and she was wagging her tail when she saw us. I took a picture of Queenie where she was placed in the clinic after spaying. Then my colleague carried her to the car as she was not able to move much yet. We tried to feed her when we arrived at the factory but she did not eat any of the food, maybe she is still not over the sedation yet. My colleague will take care of her but I will still go to the factory tomorrow morning to see her although it is my off day tomorrow. Queenie, before spaying
Queenie, after spaying
Early this morning, Joanne texted me while I was in Penang to attend a relative's funeral. Queenie had passed away at 5am this morning. I was quite shocked, and since I was not in the Klang Valley, I texted Mandy and Wani to help Joanne.
By the time Wani managed to contact the vet to arrange for a post-mortem, Joanne's friends had already buried Queenie, so this was not possible anymore.
As such, all we now have is speculation for the cause of death.
The vet said Queenie was fine and there was no sign of fever at all when she was discharged, otherwise he would not have discharged her at all. In fact, she was not even bleeding during the surgery and the surgery went very well. The vet himself was also shocked to hear the news.
As to the blood stains on the wound when Queenie was found dead this morning, the vet explained that it could have been a case of pulmonary embolism which causes a blood clot and stops the heart.
The vet further explained that in some rare cases, even the healthiest dogs could die suddenly from a routine operation. I have personally heard of this as well.
We are deeply saddened by Queenie's passing and we express our deepest condolences to Joanne and all her friends. We understand the Queenie was very special and well-loved by the factory staff.
It was extremely unfortunate that this had to happen to Queenie, but as with humans, these kinds of things do happen sometimes.
We hope Joanne is able to come to terms with the reality of the situation.
May Queenie be in a better place now.
