I am a 5 year old street dog called Lenon and I would like to tell you my story in the hope that you can help other dogs like me.
I was brought to Soi Dog with a seriously infected wound on my paw. It had been there so long I can no longer remember how it happened. All I know is I was in agony and I hadn’t eaten for a long time. I was weak and exhausted and no longer able to fight.
The vets at the shelter examined my wound and found that it went right down to the bone and was full of maggots. They cleaned it all out and started me on medication. Over the next few weeks, my wound was cleaned and treated every day but I was still not using my leg. As the wound healed, the vets tried to get me to stand and walk on my leg but I simply couldn’t do it.
Eventually, the vets explained to me that in order for me to be able to walk and run around again like all dogs should be able to, they would have to remove this leg that was causing me so many problems. I was asleep when they did this and so I felt nothing. Since my surgery, I am so much happier. I am able to get around just fine on my three remaining legs and am re-discovering the joys of being mobile once more!
All the help I have received is thanks to some very special people the vets have told me about. They are a group of Soi Dog supporters called the Emergency Response Team and it is their monthly donations that meant I could be picked up and treated. Thanks to them, I am no longer in pain and I can look forward to getting on with my life.
I so want the same thing for all the other suffering street dogs and cats out there. Can YOU be the one who helps today? If you join the Emergency Response Team, you will be helping so many street dogs and cats who are in desperate need of help.
