For this week’s update on animal care, we are going to do a revisit on a soft-shell turtle we covered about a month ago. His name is ‘SHY’, due to his rather shy demeanor as compared to some of our other soft-shell turtles. He was not shy when we first rescued him though. This was probably due to the stress he endured being illegally released into the wrong habitat and having being inflicted with horrendous injuries. Its been a month since he was rescued and we are glad to report on how well he has been recovering. His appetite is also good and is rather active and alert now. He has been going through a series of treatments given by our animal care officer Sarah involving antibiotics and anti-bacterial creams to treat the ulcers on his plastron and carapace. You can see the vast difference in his condition from when he was first rescued and now. SHY still has some way to go now before fully recovering.
