I am Nena. I have had a hard life to date, born on the streets of Phuket, Thailand, and trying to survive with no owner to care for me. Every day was spent hunting for whatever bits of food I could find; every night was spent trying desperately to stay out of danger. It all fell apart for me the day I was hit by a car and left to die by the side of the road. I am only one year old.

Try to imagine what it is like to be seriously injured, lying by the side of the road in agony. You are all alone and there is nobody to help you. You are terrified by the sounds of other cars speeding past you, convinced you will be hit again. Eventually, the throbbing pain of your broken leg takes over, and you close your eyes and wait for death.

But it was not my day to die. Instead, I was picked up and brought first to a special hospital to have my leg x-rayed, then taken to Soi Dog. The vets at the shelter made a cast for my broken leg and gave me medication for the pain. They tried to get me to exercise my leg a little every day but at first, it was too difficult for me and I refused to walk or even stand on it.

Today, it is a different story. After over a month in the care of Soi Dog, one day, I started using my leg. Slowly at first and careful not to put too much weight on it, but every day, I am using it a bit more. The cast has now been taken off and I have been moved from the clinic to one of the dog runs. The memory of that terrifying time lying by the side of the road is all but gone. I am safe now.

Despite everything I have already been through in my short life, I am one of the lucky ones – I was saved. This could only happen because of the donations of a special group of Soi Dog supporters called the Emergency Response Team. I am telling you my story in the hope that YOU will join the team today.

There are many other sick, injured, or abandoned dogs and cats – young and old – that need your help. Please join the Emergency Response Team and do for them what other supporters did for me. Please click on my photo to get started.
