A little good news on Rhino, the Green Iguana:
In March, we were alerted to a sick Green iguana by the roadside. When we reached the rescue location, we were shocked to find a female Green iguana in very bad condition, emaciated and possibly gravid. Confirming that thought, on our way back from rescue itself, she started laying all her eggs in the transport carrier. We were very worried for Rhino (she got her name from the two little spikes left on her head) and her health. She could have been kept as a pet and released or abandoned we would never know her true story.
All we knew was that, she needed immediate veterinary attention and critical care. She weighed a mere 900 grams after the eggs were cleared and Rhinos body suffered from several nutritional deficiencies, in addition to an infected right eye. We focussed on her nutrition and appetite first; Rhino turned out to be a cooperative patient, who started basking under natural sunlight, enjoyed the misting and began to eat on her own. Sadly, her right eye remains closed and partially blind, but we are glad that she is slowly growing stronger. Weighing a good 2 kg now, we are hoping that she keeps up with her steady improvement pattern!
