CAN YOU SAVE ANOTHER HERO? PLEASE CLICK HERE TO HELP

We would like to tell you about a little boy named Hero. Some of you will know him but many of you won’t. His story is just one example of what the donations of Soi Dog supporters have achieved and continue to achieve every day.

We first heard about Hero when a local lady contacted us. She had found Hero lying in a corner behind a building. He had been brutally stabbed in several places. He was bleeding profusely and had crawled into the corner to die.

By the time Animal Rescue Officer Khun Sanae got Hero to the shelter, his legs were so badly swollen that the vets struggled to take a blood sample. His knife wounds were infested with maggots and he had septicaemia.

Despite his injuries, Hero was starving and wolfed down a whole can of dog food in seconds. We realised this brave little boy was going to fight for his life.

In addition to his knife injuries and the resulting septicaemia, Hero was diagnosed with blood parasites and mange, but needed to finish his septicaemia treatment before being given any other medication.

As the weeks passed, Hero’s transformation was gradual but steady. His knife wounds were treated daily and slowly started to heal. His fur began to grow back and Dr. Su gave him regular body scrubs for an hour and a half at a time, to remove dead skin and matted fur.

Hero continued to eat well and started to put on weight. His regained strength meant he could be started on medication for his blood parasites and mange. The light came back in his eyes.

Hero got a second chance at life and his rescue alone makes him one of the lucky ones. However, his story doesn’t end there. This brave little boy captured the heart of a woman named Sissy, who lives in the US. Sissy got in touch and told us she wanted to provide Hero with his forever home. In March of this year, Hero left Soi Dog and flew to his new home in Maine. We’ll admit that we cried.

Hero’s new life in the US is a world away from that dark corner he crawled into to die. The latest update from Sissy is that his mange is now almost completely gone and he will shortly be off his medication. The words she used to describe Hero were “precious and loving”. That’s our boy.

Every day, Soi Dog rescues and treats dogs and cats that are sick, injured or have been abandoned. Sadly, Hero’s case is not an isolated one. Without the regular donations of our supporters, we simply couldn’t carry on.

If you are already a donor, on behalf of Hero and all the future Heroes, we thank you. Please share our post with your friends to raise more awareness of our work.

If you are not already a donor but want to help these suffering animals, please join the Emergency Response Team today. No amount is too small; every penny we receive is essential in keeping us going. Please click on Hero’s before and after pictures to get started.
