NATURAL LITTER IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO
Risks of cancer and significant environmental destruction come along with old-school cat litter. Many cat guardians have turned to pine, wheat or recycled fiber and with good reason.
“Traditional cat litter is bad news on a few levels,” KYForward Columnist Beth Oleson explains. “Its strip and pit-mined clay, so its production is extremely destructive. Its not biodegradable, and millions of pounds of it are bagged up in plastic and tossed into the trash every year. Its also silica-based, and the dust that billows up when you pour it in the box, or whenever your cat digs in it, is a carcinogen.”
Our personal favorite is pine pellets. You can easily scoop out to areas of urination in the box because the pine in that spot will break down into a saw-dust like form. There’s less waste, less environmental damage and no risk of cancer to you or your cats.
