Koo wrote this last night and I'd like to share it with all of you:
Dear Dr Chan,
In May 2011, I came across a Rina Chew's posting of an adoption appeal for a stray dog which hangs out at a playground in Section 19. The dog is possibly a Jack Russell mix, medium-sized and male. Rina was previously renting a room there and she was attracted to this stray dog, named Brother, who was extremely friendly to everybody. Apparently, Brother has once ushered puppies out of harm's way when they were in the path of an approaching car. However, she moved out to another area but was concerned about the long-term prospects of Brother.
Rina's friends, 2 sisters who lived nearby, were also attracted to Brother but their father refused to allow them to adopt the dog. This is because one is still studying in Australia while the other is working in Singapore and their parents could usually be away visiting their daughter in Australia for about a month or so. As a result, the sisters could just regularly visit the playground to play and feed the dog. But the dog has expanded his horizon and could be seen wandering in faraway places.
So, today (Monday, 4 July), straight after office hours, I managed to rush there, locate and capture the dog after 4 days of attempts to locate him together with the sisters. However, due to the distance and time involved, we couldn't sent the dog to an AnimalCare panel vet and instead, we quickly sent him to another vet in Damansara Jaya which has a good reputation. We sent him for an overnight stay and neutering, vaccination, de-worming and Frontline-d. In addition, he had a deep bleeding cut on one of his paws and would require stitching. Once he is done, the sisters would foster him until he recovers in about one week's time before putting him up for adoption.
As the medical cost is high, I would like to inquire whether AnimalCare can still subsidise some cost despite our use of a non-panel vet.

We offered our immediate assistance but Koo later said MDDB has offered to take up this case.
Kudos to Koo and everyone for working together to save Brother.
Brother, you are one lucky dog!
A note to rescuers - you need not send your rescues to our panel vets (as we don't have that many). You can always send your animals to your own vets and if you require financial assistance, please write to me at chankahyein@gmail.com and we'll work out a subsidy for you based on our available funds. I just need a photograph of the animal (sent by email) and the original receipt (sent by post). Please do read our policies as well: http://www.myanimalcare.org/p/policies.html
