Germanys Waste-Free Supermarket

We encourage everyone to be eco-friendly, to live a “green” life and of course, to reduce the use of plastic bags to reduce the dangers it poses to marine life, amongst other reasons.

Take a look at this innovative idea:http://www.gizmag.com/original-unverpackt-germany-waste-free-supermarket/32376/

When it comes to sustainability, you might know Germany best for itsrenewable energyambitions and efforts to reducecarbon pollution. While these initiatives have been largely driven by government and researchers, a team of budding entrepreneurs is looking to get in on the action, too. Aiming to open this (northern summer), Original Unverpackt will be Germany’s first package-free supermarket.

The start-up is led by Sara Wolf and Miena Glimbovski who, after becoming disillusioned with the amount of plastic involved in big supermarket shopping, dropped out of university and set about removing it from the experience altogether. The project has been in the works for around two years, and with a hugely successful crowdfunding campaign soon drawing to a close, the team is preparing to fling open the doors on what it hopes will be a clean shopping revolution.

The green revolution is going on everywhere, but it takes concerted effort and CARE before it can be implemented successfully and extensively.

Penang started its green movement by disallowing the use of plastic bags. Penangites are now living happily with tiffin carriers, personal shopping bags and food containers.

In other states, no such legislation has been implemented. The public is only encouraged to go green, but I’ve heard consumers who complain and threaten to boycott shops that charge for plastic bags or eateries that charge for plastic containers. This is a sad phenomenon. We have much to learn.

The first step is to learn to CARE. It’s not about our own short-term convenience, but how our every action impacts upon the earth.

We can make a difference if we care enough.

Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Recycle and Reflect.

The animals will benefit when we go green.
