Letter from Cristina Cristescu at the St. Francis shelter in Romania.

“Dear Laura,
I am afraid I have not good news from my humble shelter because we have lost sponsors from Germany this month.They were helping with neutering costs and a part of other payments.Problem was that they decided not to help the shelter anymore because the number of puppies was growing monthly.These pupps were dropped in plastic sacks by the village people living in our area. They never neuter the females, they are not educated. Village people said that if the dog is neutered it will not bark and work as guardian of the yard, and is easy to put the born pupps in a plastic sack and to drop in the night in the shelter’s area.
We are neutering pregnant females from villages as they are on roads, their owners let them on roads without care of food or water..We catch them and neuter them without asking people but even so, a lot are still neutered, we are speaking here of a hundreds in our area.This is the problem, German suggest to drop them out the shelter and let them die… we got different ideas and they decided not to help anymore.
I can not kill a puppy, I am a rescuer and I must find a proper solution at this crises.
Desperately we asked people to come and give us the pregnant females or to allow us to neuter, in March we neutered 45 dogs from shelter and village, but is not enaugh..more pupps arrived.
We had found homes and re homed a lot of dogs in April and now in May we re homed 23 animals(7 cats and 16 dogs) .We have still 350 to feed and care. For me alone is impossible to take care of their health(vet bills are huge each month) and to feed the shelter.
And to pay alone neutering surgeries, in this moment we are raising money for neutering 30 dogs which are in shelter, the pupps which have grown.
Question is if Harmony Fund can help st Francisc shelter with a part of food money month by month, to can count on these money when we do the food order at factory.From 350 dogs we have 106 dogs sponsored with 10 Euros/month but all the shelter must eat….we can not give food only to the sponsored dogs. IF you could afford monthly an amount of ..250-350 Euros you can save us, as you did before.We buy cheap dry food, 6 Euros/10 kg including transport.
Hope we have a good answer as you are our last chance to survive.”

Not today,not ever,” Laura said. “I want you to know that we are here for you. You have always been respectful and never asked for anything more than youve needed. “Its very easy to say, ‘Stop accepting puppies’ but its an entirely different thing to have the little ones dropped at your gate, hungry and afraid. I have seen how hard you all work, 365 days a year. You shouldn’t have to stand alone. For the record, I would do exactly what you are doing.”
ALL DONATIONS FOR THE NEXT 48 HOURS will go toward food & spay/neuter services for this shelter in Romania. We would be especially grateful if a few people would enroll to make a monthly donation which will allow us to provide food and spay/neuter funds for the shelter all year long.
