TIPS TO KEEP YOUR PET SAVE THIS GAWAI HOLIDAY | Gawai is a festive time for us and our pets. However, due to ongoing distractions we can easily overlook potential dangers to our pets.

1. FIREWORKS. Keep them in the house and leave the TV on to keep a normal environment. Make sure they have a comfy place to hide and feel safe.

2. DECORATIONS & ORNAMENTS. Small decorations can cause choking hazard to your pets, so keep them away from your pet’s reach. Holiday lights can cause electric shock for a pet who likes to chew.

3. FESTIVE FOODS. Tuak is a no-no! Also watch out for rum-soaked cakes or unbaked deserts containing alcohol which can kill your pet. Alcohol affects the central nervous system and leads to hypotension, seizures and respiratory failure.
