Project ADORE (ADOption and REhoming of dogs) officially formalized!
We are pleased to share here that Project ADORE, first mooted by SPCA and ASD in 2011, and then piloted by the MND, AVA and HDB in 2012, has formally transited from a pilot scheme to a permanent programme!
Under ADORE, HDB flat owners can adopt local mixed breed dogs which are up to 15 kg in weight and 50 cm in height. These limits are a slight increase from the size of toy breeds allowed in HDB flats. Interested adopters are allowed to keep only ONE dog per flat and have to abide by stringent ownership conditions, including the sterilisation, routine vaccination and micro-chipping of the adopted dog. New owners must also apply for an AVA dog licence.
Over the last two years, a total of 64 dogs have been successfully rehomed under ADORE. To date, none of the adopted dogs have been returned to SPCAs or ASDs shelters.
Interested HDB residents looking to adopt a dog under Project ADORE can contact SPCA (at 6287 5355 extension 9), ASD or SOSD (We are happy to welcome SOSD on board with us). One example of a Project ADORE-eligible dog is our very own cross-breed mongrel, Tasha (pictured here), who has been in our shelter since early 2012.
