Updates On 20th May 2014

The ACRES rescue team have just recently picked up a Chinese Soft-shell turtle. He was found at Sembawang beach park, crawling along the beach. This is could possibly indicate that he could have been a victim of illegal animal liberation practices. He was found with ulcers and sores all over his carapace and his plastron has lacerations. The sores and ulcers are also emitting an foul smell.

We are currently in the process of establishing his injuries and the proper treatments to administer him with. ACRES have come across turtles with such injuries before and they take a very long time to recover.

Soft shell turtles are prone to fungal infections on their carapace. We cant be too sure yet about the injuries suffered by this guy but it could be due to existing infections that have become severe due to the exposure to salt water. Soft shell turtles are fresh water species. The exposure to salt water is harmful to them. We will post more photos of this guy and his progress over the next few months.
