A Message From Cooper

My name is Cooper and although I am a boy of just 4 years of age, my life has changed so much. You might remember what happened to me, but if you havent met me, you can read my original story here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.678595915515480.1073742729.108625789179165&type=1

Until recently, my life was lived on the streets of Phuket. I had never known any other kind of existence; I have never had a home or an owner of my own. There are so many dogs like me here in Thailand; it is probably quite different to your country. Here, dogs like me are born and live our whole lives on the street. Some are lucky and people will feed them; for others like me, life was not so good. I was Cooper and I had to fight to survive.

A few weeks ago, a very bad thing happened to me. I was hit by a car as I ran around the streets looking for food. My front leg was very badly broken and I was in so much pain. There was nobody there to help me. I lay on the road, closed my eyes and waited for another car to hit me. I knew that if it happened again, I would die.

I dont remember how long I was there when I felt a humans arms wrap around me. A man picked me up and held me, then took me to his car. I found out later that that man was Khun Jaroon and he is an Animal Rescue Officer with Soi Dog. For me, he will always be the man who saved my life.

When I arrived at Soi Dog, the vets examined me and put a cast on my leg. They gave me antibiotics and painkillers and said that although I also had a fungal skin infection, they would need to wait to treat that as they didnt want to give me too much medication at the same time. They are very kind vets.

Every time they changed my cast, they would try to get me to use the leg but it was just so difficult for me. After a while though, they were able to treat my fungal infection and I was so happy to no longer be itching constantly. One day, the vets told me they would have to remove my leg. They explained that if they didnt, I would never be able to walk or run like other dogs. I trusted the vets and I so badly wanted to be able to move around again.

I was asleep when they removed my leg and so I didnt feel any pain at all. As I slowly recovered, I learnt to stand on and walk with my three legs and I was so happy. The volunteers now take me for walks every day and I am proud to show them how well I can get around. I am Cooper and I have survived.

There are so many other dogs like me out there and they just wont make it without your help. Please visit this link to find out how you can join the Emergency Response Team, no matter where in the world you are based: http://bit.ly/1g0G8b3

I hope that telling you my story will have saved the life of another dog today. Please join the team and make it so.
