From Hell To Heaven: Little Noris Dream Comes True

Meet Nori, a little girl of about 8 years old. Last May, Nori was intercepted, along with 500 other dogs, from a makeshift slaughter house hidden in the jungle close to Tha Rae, in north eastern Thailand. Sadly, the barbaric slaughter had already begun when the raid occurred, though most of the dogs were rescued. Nori is barely recognisable in the iron cage she was crammed into with 10 other dogs. Taken initially to Nakhon Phanom shelter, you can just see her in the bottom right of the picture.

Little Nori was one of hundreds of dogs that contracted distemper at that time because of overcrowding, but somehow survived and was transferred to Soi Dogs new shelters at Buriram. Life was still not easy for such a small dog, as she had to share a run with 400 other dogs which were all bigger than her and she was obviously very wary of them.

Nori had obviously been through a terrifying time since being snatched from her previous home and we cannot imagine how confused and scared she must have been. This is why were so happy to tell you that Noris dream came true when she received word that she was being adopted by a lovely lady named Marleen Veenstra, who lives in Holland. Marleen already has another dog named Cho Cho, who was also rescued from the illegal dog meat trade.

Nori was flown to Phuket and is now with Soi Dog, before travelling to her new home in around 3 months time. Nori is friendly with everyone and good with the other dogs too. Since arriving at our shelter, her obvious signs of fear and apprehension have disappeared and she has become very cuddly and affectionate.

Nori is one of thousands of dogs rescued from the dog meat trade. Many, like Nori, were clearly somebodys pet before being snatched by the dog meat traders. While the dogs physical needs are being met, their emotional needs are not, and many who once knew loving homes are listless and forlorn. The Magic 1000 Club is providing food but cannot provide the love these dogs so desperately need.

Other dogs that remain behind, such as beautiful Smiley, who is approximately 1 and a half years old, will give up unless we can find a home for her soon. She was very weak when moved from the previous shelter to Buriram and has only recently been discharged from hospital. Who can say how long she will survive without a loving home? Can you help? If you can make a dream come true, please email cristy@soidog.org for photos and more information.
