The Asian Koel can be seen quite often on our sunny island. The male being predominantly a black glossy colour and the female is dark brown with white and buff spots.
DID YOU KNOW?
The Koel lays its eggs in the nests of crows and other hosts? Where their young are raised by the foster parents!
The word Koel is echoic in origin and this bird is widely used as a symbol in Indian poetry. This bird had also been compared to the nightingale sometimes because of its melodious call!
So let us leave our gadgets at home & prick our ears when we head down for a stroll or just to grab a quick dinner. You might end up hearing a koel’s beautiful melodious call just before sunset.
