Abandoned On An Uninhabited Island, Starving Bon Is Rescued

Abandoned on an uninhabited island, starving Bon is rescued

Imagine one day, you are playing around your home and you are suddenly picked up, put in a boat and taken to an uninhabited island with only snakes and other reptiles available as food. No people, no dogs. Imagine your panic as you see the boat disappearing into the distance.

This is what we suspect happened to Bon. Bon would have slowly starved to death were it not for kind-hearted expat Sam. Sam fancied a quiet afternoon away from Phuket’s busy beaches one day, and rented a boat with some friends.

Arriving on the island, she found emaciated Bon and gave her some food. On her return, she could not get the starving dog out of her mind and at her own expense, returned to feed Bon and try to catch her. Unfortunately, Bon was too frightened to be picked up and no doubt the sight of the boat brought back bad memories.

In desperation, Sam contacted Soi Dog. As it was impossible on a normal working day to spare one of our rescue officers for the several hours needed for the mission, Khun Sanae sacrificed his day off to go with Sam to the island. Using his experience, he was able to sedate Bon using an anaesthetic dart and she was safely transported back to Phuket. We are happy to report that Bon is now making a full recovery at the Soi Dog shelter.

We were only able to help Bon thanks to the support of the Emergency Response Team. This group of dedicated supporters around the world means we can provide vital, life-saving treatment to Phuket’s street dogs and cats.
