14 BARF Verdicts

All the cats seemed to know that there’s going to be something new today. So, by 3pm, everyone was already eagerly waiting for dinner.

Bunny insisted we would all have an early dinner today.

Ok, ok….

You cannot fool a cat. It’s either they smelled something OR they totally read your mind.

I am inclined to think it’s the latter as the BARF was tightly sealed while being thawed. But then again, a cats’ sense of smell is probably many times more sensitive than ours! (I hear it’s 14 times stronger than ours.)

Ready or not, here we go…

I prepared a bowl of Monge (their usual) and took the tray of BARF out to the pantry with the intention of only giving a teaspoon to each of them, on top of the Monge.

As expected, Cow, Pole, Tabs and Tiger avoided the BARF and ate the Monge around it.

Indy (as expected or unexpected, I cannot quite decide!) was so annoyed {“WHAT are you serving me???”) walked towards the Stargate, to be far, far away from this dreadful thing you dare to call “a cat’s dinner”.

I had thought Indy might give it a try as he likes liver and blood….but no, I was far off the mark.

Bunny ate it (as expected).

Cleo loved it (also as expected) and even refused to eat the Monge. So I had to give her more of the BARF or she would have only eaten that small teaspoon of BARF and that’s that. I know Cleo can take raw food, so I gave her a bit more.

Meanwhile, I had to pacify and apologise profusely to Indy, who by now, had gone from the Stargate to the grille to complain to the PatioCats that I must be off my rockers today (being Workers’ Day) and had absent-mindedly forgotten to cook his food.

After awhile, Indy calmed down and decided he would eat the Monge, but ONLY if I served it in a clean bowl with no trace of the BARF. And away from the pantry where “those two carnivores” (referring to Bunny and Cleo) were eating raw, uncooked food.

Indy ate. Phew….(not that he would starve even if he had skipped a meal or two).

Meanwhile, the PatioCats were waiting patiently, obviously quite oblivious to Indy’s complaint.

Now, I had thought Mr Zurik would definitely eat raw food, being trained by the Russian KGB and all, but….

It was Daffodil who ate it immediately and seemed to enjoy it.

Rosie and Ginger ate it too, though not so enthusiastically.Vincent would have nothing to do with the uncooked food. He wanted only Monge, and like Indy, only from a clean bowl. Heidi avoided the BARF and ate the Monge around it. Timmy didn’t want any of the BARF and only wanted the Monge.

No please, no…don’t make me eat this, please!!

??????? ????

mini-P5010715

I want my kibbles, please, sobs…kibbles please, please, please…!!

And he kept rubbing his face onto the kibble jar, probably saying, “Goodness gracious, what does it take to make YOU understand that I want the kibbles and not this dreadful THING you have mixed with the Monge!”

mini-P5010716

Okay, okay, you Russian-Junkie. Eat your kibbles!

So, that’s the verdict from the 14 of them today.

For BARF: Cleo, Bunny, Daffodil, Rosie, Ginger.
Against BARF: Indy (he requested for three votes from him alone), Cow, Tiger, Pole, Tabs, Vincent, Mr Zurik, Heidi, Timmy.

I will give the remaining BARF to those who want it. I know for Cleo, it’s probably quite heavenly. She loves raw.

Talking about the sense of smell, since our water supply has come back today (and I hear water rationing will end today…HOORAY!), I thought I would do several loads of laundry today.

And this includes laundering the cat pillows. My plan is to wash them, change the filler and refill the silvervine powder and leaves. But for the ones where I had used remnant cloth, I can just wash and dry them.

But…

Bunny got to them as I was drying them and yes…he sniffed and sprayed on them.

Sigh…

Never mind, will wash again….

The Ultraman and Halloween pillows will always be special for the cats. Ultraman is a gift from Bin Chew to Indy when he was severely ill a few years ago (mysterious illness and until today, the vets don’t know what was wrong with him). Halloween is from Joy to Tabs when she was severely ill last year (also due to some undetermined cause).
