CAT BALANCES ON UTILITY POLE FOR 24+ HOURS,

WHILE HIS “MOM” PLEADS FOR SOMEONE TO HELP

Storm the cat is purring on the bed pillow again after a harrowing 24 hours or more on top of a utility pole.

Gabriel Sanwald of Washington told Pennisula Daily News that she called anyone she could think of to save her beloved cat, but no one would help. The utility company turned down her request, and because the pole belongs to them, firefighters and tree companies did not have permission to access it. In fact, police dispatch suggested she put a can of tuna at the bottom of the pole. Considering that it was a 55 foot drop straight down, one wonders how that might have helped.

Feeling helpless and desperate, Gabriel was stunned when the phone rang. It appears that there were some internal conversations at the Clallam County Public Utility District and they told her they would have a crew with a bucket truck in the neighborhood and would come by her house.

Little Storm initially flinched as the bucket starting moving in on him and, for a split second, it looked as though he would jump. Thankfully he surrendered to better judgement and squeezed his paws onto the chest of a utility worker who helped him to the ground safely.

He’s frazzled but eating and fine, Gabriel said.

Gabriel added that Storm’s brother Milo, normally an indoor cat, had stayed outside for 12 hours until Gabriel finally spotted him on top of the pole. Once he knew that his brother’s location had been made known, Milo retreated back inside and held vigil at the bedroom window until Storm returned.

The two are apparently busy making up for lost time.

Animal Rescue Chase

The Great Animal Rescue Chase celebrates the art of animal rescue with a worldwide race to rescue one million. It’s a free event, open to all, and is perhaps the only global animal rescue event aimed at helping any animal in distress, anywhere in the world. Our ambition is to create a culture of enthusiasm and pride in animal activism. We believe in teaching, by example, that there is a hero in each of us just waiting to be unleashed. Empowered animal lovers can not only save lives, but build the momentum for powerful animal welfare reform.
