Tan KT sent this for sharing and contemplation. Some parts of it may be sensitive to our readers, but I hope everyone can take it in the right way. It is for contemplation and reflection, and there is no malice intended in any way.
Dear Dr Chan,
Your post on : Dog meat farmers cancel festival in Korea, was interesting. How about another post regarding Ritual/Religious Slaughter of Animals as in the article from Reuters news agency below. Surprisingly, there is a political party by the name of Animal Rights Party which actually won parliamentary seats in Holland and their view on Religious Slaughter of Animals is: “For us religious freedom stops where human or animal suffering begins.” - Animal Rights Party (Holland).
(KT, I know about this political party and I have the highest respect for them. They are featured in my book, Indy Jones.)
Maybe when our country is more advanced (in the civilized sense) and our voters more open-minded, we too can have a Animal Rights Party and it can win seats in our Parliament too ... but something tells me it won't be in my lifetime!
(I sure hope so, too, and soon, please!)
Ritual slaughter of animals results in millions of animals suffering unnecessary fear and pain when they are killed not so much for food but to fulfill/observe some ancient religious obligations. The resulting negative vibrations emitted by the millions of slaughtered animals accumulate and may spark earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, typhoons which ends in loss of animal and human lives. And we call it acts of God? More like we humans like to create a big mess on this earth and then blame God!
I have seen pictures of animals being slaughtered as religious sacrifices and it is gruesome as the animals are not stunned but practically have their throats slit while they are fully conscious. All in the name of religion. Sigh.
That is why I am moving towards being a vegetarian... I have reached the stage where I now eat mostly seafood, veges and fruits... I try to avoid all land animals. Got to be careful when I am near the sea though, all the sea creatures will take revenge on me for eating them and not the land animals! Hahahaha.
Regards TanKT
Dutch ban religious slaughtering of animals June 28, 2011 AMSTERDAM, June 28 – The Dutch parliament voted today to ban ritual slaughter of animals, a move strongly opposed by the country’s Muslim and Jewish minorities, but left a loophole that could let traditional butchery continue. The bill by the small Animal Rights Party, the first such group in Europe to win seats in a national parliament, passed the lower house of parliament and must be approved by the upper house before becoming law. It stipulates that livestock must be stunned before being slaughtered, contrary to the Muslim halal and Jewish kosher laws that require animals to be fully conscious. “This way of killing causes unnecessary pain to animals. Religious freedom cannot be unlimited,” Marianne Thieme, head of Animal Rights Party, said before the vote. “For us religious freedom stops where human or animal suffering begins.” In a rare show of unity, the Netherlands’ Muslim and Jewish communities – about 1 million and 40,000 respectively in a total population of 16 million – have condemned the proposed ban as a violation of their religious freedom. European Union regulations require animals to be stunned before slaughter but allow exceptions for ritual slaughter. Sweden, Luxembourg and non-EU members Norway and Switzerland ban ritual slaughter. – Reuters
