Spreading The Word Of Kindness

On weekends, I give talks at various places, and whenever I get the chance, I do talk about kindness to animals.
This morning, I was at the Kinrara Metta Buddhist Society.
Little did I know that amongst the audience was a little 7-year old girl, Chan Siew May, who had sat in the corner, clutching one of my books, See you at Rainbow Bridge.
After the talk, an adult brought her up to meet me and to get my autograph on her book.
I was so thrilled to meet this little girl. Her doggy-eared Rainbow book, I could see, had been read many times. And I know she has read the stories as she was even able to tell me that I used to call Vixey “Oh Chou Mou”!
I was extremely touched. Her father says she loves to read books about animals and has read Pawprints and Indy Jones too. I later went to my car to get my other books for her.
Seven year-old Chan Siew May.
With other members of the audience, after the talk.
I also met another lady who had sought my advice the last time over a neighbour who had been mistreating her dog. I told her to report it to the SPCA and gave her the link.
She did, and the SPCA referred her to the DVS and would you know it? The DVS officers came on the same day and advised the neighbour. Of course, she had to follow up with 6 phone calls in order to get to the person in charge.
She says that ever since then, the neighbour, an old lady, is now treating the dog better.
See?
It does make a difference, but we must be brave enough to make the effort.
I’m so glad that sometimes, in whatever you share, something strikes a chord in someone, and it can make a big difference for the betterment of all.
