SPCA responded to a report received on Sunday 19 June, that there was a stall selling tiger products at a Malay Wedding and Food Expo Sale being held at Expo Hall 5. SPCA's staff visited undercover and confirmed that there were items on sale, the seller claiming that they were tiger products.
AVA CITES team was called in that same evening, and they seized the items. The seller of the alleged tiger products was given a compound fine of $1,000. The products are in the process of being tested by the AVA for authenticity.
Under the Endangered Species (Import and Export) Act, Section 4(2),
"Any person who has in his possession or under his control, or who sells, offers or exposes or advertises for sale, or displays to the public any scheduled species which has been imported or introduced from the sea in contravention
of subsection (1) shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $50,000 for each such scheduled species (but not to exceed in the aggregate $500,000) or to imprisonment for a term not
exceeding 2 years or to both."
