Dog Comes In With Eye Problem, Many Other Health Problems Found

Poor Safari Sam came to the Soi Dog clinic from the mobile clinic with a problem with his eye. Upon examination by Dr Eed, it was determined that his eye problem is a result of him having canine transmissible venereal tumour (TVT), a type of cancer easily spread between dogs. This condition is more commonly seen in tropical climates with a high street dog population, just like Phuket. Dogs suffering this condition may also have urinary tract problems, nosebleeds and other nasal discharge, facial swelling and swollen lymph nodes. Left untreated, this cancer may spread to the skin, brain, liver, spleen, testicles and muscles and the prognosis would not be positive.

A tumour has also been found on Safari Sam’s penis, also most likely caused by TVT. Safari Sam also has skin problems, missing teeth and anaemia and will require extensive vet treatment to overcome these health problems.

It is only because of the members of the Emergency Response Team (https://www.soidog.org/en/donate-today/ert/ert.html) that the Soi Dog vets can provide Safari Sam with the treatment he needs. He has been started on a course of chemotherapy and is currently receiving intravenous nutrients to help with his anaemia.

If you would like to help Safari Sam and dogs like him receive the treatment and care they need, please consider joining the Emergency Response Team today. This can be done by visiting https://www.soidog.org/en/donate-today/ert/ert.html
