Suzzie is a few steps closer to be released back home! She is due for her final surgery tomorrow. Her x-ray shows positive results of bone and skin regeneration. By this time tomorrow, Suzzie will be waking up from the surgery. If you can recall, a month back, she had to undergo an emergency operation to save her badly infected and fractured left hand. The 4 hours of amazing skin autograph and bone marrow transfusion surgery led by Dr Ly and Dr Carmen from ARVC (Animal Recovery Veterinary Referral Centre) , saved Suzzie from undergoing amputation of her hand.

For 1 month, while waiting for her bones to fuse and new skin to generate, we witness Suzzie combat her difficulties in moving with a temporary missing limb by re-adaptation. Despite being so young and having to fall victim to illegal snares, survival has become an instinctual craft for her.

The surgery tomorrow will be a refreshing start for Suzzie, as she will have her left hand stitched off from her body – in simple terms : she will be able to move with all 4 limbs ! Not forgetting that she has only 1 finger left on her left hand , she will be given ample time to exercise and adapt with this new challenge.

Imagine having to fight on to live , despite not having your family and loved ones with you. This is Suzzie’s story and we each have something to learn from her. May her story inspire the hearts of many and make people understand the reality and plight that the macaques are facing here. Stay tune for next Monday’s macaque updates here , to find out how Suzzie’s surgery goes !
